How to Defragment Your Disk Drive Volumes in Windows
In Windows Vista and Windows 7
Disk Defragmenter now runs as a standard scheduled task in Windows Vista and Windows 7. It is not necessary to run the disk defragmenter manually unless it has been disabled. We can initiate a manual defragmentation by opening the Disk Defragmenter application. Follow the steps to do the same.
Start menu –> All Programs –> Accessories –> System Tools –> Disk Defragmenter.
In Windows XP
- Start menu –> All Programs –> Accessories –> System Tools –> Disk Defragmenter.
- Select the volume(s) that you want to check for fragmentation.
- Click Analyze and wait for the message box to find out whether or not you need to defragment.
- If you need to defragment, click Defragment.
