How to manually remove programs from the Add or Remove Programs tool

If some of the program installed on the computer is corrupted or some installation files are missing or if those are potentially unwanted software’s like spyware  we needed to remove them manually.  Follow this instructions to remove them manually from the computer.

  1. Please press the Windows key and R key on your keyboard together
  2. Now you will get a Run window.
  3. Inside that Run Window Type REGEDIT or REGEDIT32 and press on Ok
  4. It will open  a Registry Editor Windows.  In Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:
  5. Each key listed under Uninstall/SOFTWARE  in the left pane of Registry Editor represents a program that is displayed in the Currently installed programs list of the Add or Remove Programs tool.
  6. After you identify the registry key that represents the program that you want to removed from  the Currently installed programs list of Add or Remove Programs, right-click the key in the left pane of the Registry Editor window, and then click Delete.
  7. Close the Registry Editor Window.
  8. Click Start Menu , click Control Panel
  9. Double-click Add or Remove Programs (In Windows XP). Programs and Features (In Windows Vista and 7)
  10. In the Currently installed programs list, verify that the program whose registry key you deleted is no longer listed.
  11. Now Close the Control Panel Window.

  NOTE : However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Playing with Registry is very Critical. Now you can remove the this particular programs installation files from the computer. For that got to the Following Location and remove all of the Folders Associated with that Program.

In Windows XP

  • c:\Program Files\
  • c:\Program Files\Common Files
  • C:\Documents and Settings\{Your User Names}\Application Data
  • C:\Documents and Settings\{Your User Names}\Application Data
  • C:\Documents and Settings\{Your User Names}\Local Settings\Application Data

In Windows Vista and Windows 7

  • c:\Program Files
  • C:\Program Files (x86)
  • C:\ProgramData
  • C:\Users\{Your User Names}\App Data\Local
  • C:\Users\{Your User Names}\Appdata\Roaming
